Any thoughts on Batteries

I am looking for info. on how I can take my RC Parachute plane with me on vacation. The airlines will no longer let you travel with lipo batteries. My plane uses a 11.1v 5000mAh battery. I was wondering if anyone out there knew if there where any other options. I have found on Tower Hobbies a Integy Intellect 9-Cell 10.8V 3600mAh NiMH Stick Pack. My plane can carry easily another pound of weight. I think the voltage would work and I would have 6-8 min fight time, but I am not sure. I also thought that I could rig something up with alkaline batteries in a series or in parrallel, but I don't know the amps or volts and I do not want to burn up my ESC. I think only Ethan reads my blog, Hi Ethan, but it would be really cool if I could bring my parachute out to Utah and fly it and video with it there or anywhere else I go. We were driving up to Cincinnati yesterday and went by the Kentucky Motor Speedway and I thought to my self. It would be cool to stop for a few minuets and fly around here and video this place. I am planing this summer to video the local RC air field, my parents farm and some of the sight around Louisville. Anyways any thought would be appreciated

10 Flying tips for Paraplanes

Here are 10 flying tips that one might find helpful when flying my models.

1) Practice launching the model and take some steps to bring the parachute up over head. Do this until you can always get the parachute over head and open correctly.
2) Launch directly into the wind.
3) Watch the power setting. Once the model is flying it uses very little throttle.
4) Watch the parachute when flying. You fly the parachute not the gondola.
5) The first few flights should be in little to no wind. This way you have more control of the parachute and can see how well it will respond when given a command.
6) When you make a turn start with full throw of the stick and then come back on the throw if you want a larger turn. You also want to add a short burst of full power after giving a full stick input. This forces the model to turn.
7) When your up high use the steering input and throttle input together to get the hang of flight control.
8) With a little flight time you should be able to fly just as I do in the videos.
9) Get a friend to help if you can.
10) Remember, Before you launch or leave the ground. ALL cells of the parachute MUST be open and the parachute must be above the gondola. The key to a GREAT flight is a good launch.

How I get my images

My two aircraft I use for video and pictures is a Yard Stick from Great Planes and a Para glider from Seabreezeparachute.com. The Yard Stick is an inexpensive airplane that fly slow and is very stable. My friends and I have converted them into night flighters with clod coils from Alin that are flexible stings of various colors that light up. They work great. Just out line your plane and connect them two your battery with a little solder. My other plane is a para glider. It is great!! Easy to fly, very stable and only fly about 10 - 15 mph. You can custom design the parachute with colors, logo, text or other images. The gondola is easy to put together and very durable. You almost cannot crash this bird. Right now the images I get are from the Flycamone from Hobby-Lobby. It is not the highest resolution camera but at 1 oz. and $79 it is a great place to start. My para glider came with a camera mount for a point and shoot camera allowing for greater resolution and videos. Check out the videos on seabreezeparachute.com.
